Statement: We want restaurant visits to be stress-free experiences, by making the payment easy and comfortable for customer and waiter.
Desired feeling: tranquility and control.
Analogy: Get on the bus, tap the bus pass, and settle down peacefully.
Situation: a typical restaurant visit begins with the waiter welcoming the customers, finding them a table, and receiving their orders.
Throughout the evening, the waitress acts as a guide and host. He/she looks after the guests and creates a pleasant atmosphere.
The problem arises with it’s time to pay. The guests must clarify private matters about economy and tipping, and judge the quality of the service while the host is waiting at the table.
Back in the “cash-times”, the waiter would leave the bill on a plate and let the guests settle the payments themselves. Modern bank terminals does not offer that possibility.
An intuitive bank terminal would allow the guests to pay without needing the waiter’s help. The product should be simple enough for any customer to understand, and durable enough to withstand heavy use.
Our solution is a combination of bank terminal, plate and touch screen. The screen shows the orders made from the table, which can easily be marked by the person who’s paying for them.
The customer gets some clear choices of tipping, such as “0%”, “10%” or “round up to X”. Finally, the customer can pay with card, cash, apple pay, etc.
Now the waiter can leave the bill and bank terminal on the table, and the guests can pay in privacy and leave when they are done.
